Secretary
As a Secretary at the GS-0318-8, you will be part of the Office of General Counsel (OGC), U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. If selected, you will be responsible for providing advanced legal, technical, and administrative support in a litigation environment, including maintaining case dockets and preparing legal and administrative documents for the Regional Attorney and other legal staff.
- Maintains litigation and administrative dockets electronically, including logging incoming charge files and litigation documents, assigning them appropriately, and independently tracking case statuses.
- Monitors the Legal Unit’s litigation and travel budgets, coordinates with administrative staff and vendors, gathers funding information, and manages confidential filing systems.
- Drafts and prepares internal litigation reports, responds to OGC information requests, assists with press releases, and prepares case filing and resolution documents.
- Receives, screens, and responds to a wide range of inquiries; manages calendars, appointments, meetings, and videoconferencing for the Regional Attorney and Legal Unit.
- Drafts and finalizes correspondence and legal-related documents using correct legal formatting; creates and maintains spreadsheets to track budgets and litigation activity with minimal oversight.
- Contacts and communicates with members of the public, charging parties and class members, opposing counsel, courts, litigants, witnesses, EEOC staff, and others.
Requirements
For the GS-8: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience includes providing advanced legal, technical, and administrative support in a litigation environment, including maintaining case dockets, preparing legal and administrative documents, and coordinating workflow and communications for attorneys and legal staff. Merit promotion applicants must meet time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. One year at the GS-7 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS- 8 level. Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements (e.g., time-in-grade and qualification requirements) within 30 days of the closing date specified in the vacancy announcement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
