MEDICAL TECHNICIAN
About the Position The Medical Technician performs a variety of procedures and tests which individually and collectively involve difficulty and complexity and involve a number of interrelated steps. The position requires a high degree of experienced judgment to recognize technical irregularities, atypical findings, and other comparable problems. The processes require fine and precise measurements or delicate equipment control adjustments, or both. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation
- Process a wide variety of laboratory specimens for shipment to civilian or military reference laboratories
- Perform processing procedures (centrifugation, splitting specimens into aliquots, and separation of components) requiring knowledge of the correct type tube, amount of specimen needed.
- Receive specimens and accompanying request forms for any separate tests that can be performed in the laboratory or shipped to a reference laboratory.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience: One-year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal Service in performing a variety of specimen collection handler and clerical functions related with clinical laboratory specimens; processing medical specimens to include infectious and bio-hazardous types; determining suitability of specimens according to criteria listed in SOPs and performing quality control procedures; entering results into multiple laboratory systems. OR Substitution of Education Successfully completion a full four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts Testing Designation Position (TDP) and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Program (CLIP) certifications are highly desirable but not required.
